Policy for Non-GM Corn from the United States
Policy for Non-GM Corn from the United States up to 2022 has been Decided
The Seikatsu Club Consumers' Co-operative Union has agreed on its policy for non-GM corn from the United States up to 2022.
We at the Seikatsu Club will firmly maintain our non-GM policy and sustain a demand for non-GM corn.
The Seikatsu Club Consumers’ Co-operative Union (SCCCU) and Zen-noh have been collectively working on the non-GM corn programs (the Boucher Plus Program and Partner Seed Program) and identity preserved handling logistics with the help of American farmers, a grain handler, CBH, and a seed company, Pioneer Hi-Bred.
Based on these achievements, the board of directors of SCCCU agreed at its monthly meeting in August to request CBH and Pioneer Hi-Bred to continue our “Partner Plus Seed Program” after it expires in 2018 and express our commitment to consume non-GM corn, which is needed to maintain the program.
SCCCU and Zen-noh will send a delegation to the United States in September to deliver the decision of the board members, and request that the non-GM corn supply be maintained for a further five years from 2018. When the delegation returns, the report on their visit to the United States will be posted on our website.
